Anna Maehl is a Danish songwriter, producer and composer who until recently lived in Brussels. She blends minimalist pop, folk and DIY productions into sublime songs. Anna made it to finalist of StuBru’s De Nieuwe Lichting 2023 with her debut single Youth Song. The song was subsequently used in the successful Flemish series Knokke Off.
As a composer, Anna is the right hand of renowned Belgian film composer Raf Keunen, who wrote the music for Rundskop and Le Fidèle, among others. The multi-talented Anna also sings in the Danish vocal group ilinx, with whom she recently performed at Roskilde.
A year and a half after her debut single Youth Song, Anna Maehl returns with new music. Today she shares The One You Need, the second single from her upcoming EP To Heal It. The One You Need is an experimental pop song for fans of Rosalía, Björk and Billie Eilish.
The One You Need is about the affection you feel for someone you are in a romantic relationship with. The main character whispers the lyrics of the song in a tender voice like a secret, to anyone who will listen. Anna Maehl addresses themes of shame and taboo in the lyrics, turning it into an indie pop song with a subtle beginning and an explosive progression.
