Anna Maehl is a Danish songwriter, producer and composer who until recently lived in Brussels. On her solo project, she mixes minimalist pop, folk and DIY productions into sublime songs. Anna made it to finalist of De Nieuwe Lichting 2023 with her debut single Youth Song. The song was subsequently used in the successful Flemish series Knokke Off.
As a composer, Anna works with renowned Belgian film composer Raf Keunen, who wrote the music for Rundskop and Le Fidèle, among others. The multi-talented Anna also sings in the Danish vocal group ilinx, with whom she recently performed at Roskilde.
A year and a half after Youth Song, Anna Maehl returns with a new single. CAROLYN tells the story of a photographer who wants the woman Carolyn as his muse. He fantasises about their artistic relationship and how easy the art process would be with Carolyn as the subject.
“Carolyn is an attempt to write a country song from the perspective of the male protagonist: a photographer who wishes to have Carolyn as his muse. Initially, I wanted to comment on the role women have often played in art history but the song also simply turned out to be about the search and longing for sublime art”’, says Anna Maehl.
CAROLYN is a beautiful, intimate art pop song The impressive music video was shot in the nature around Copenhagen. Photographer Soeren Lynggaard took a bunch of pictures of Anna as muse Carolyn. Afterwards, the photos were merged into a hypnotising video with an infinite zoom.
