Danny Blue
Danny Blue took shape early on in high school under the name ‘Danny Blue and the Old Socks.’ Inspired by the 21st-century wave of eclectic indie rock, they gained attention with their EP Backyard Days in 2017. In the years that followed, they played numerous shows in different formations and recorded another EP, BOYS, in 2020. During this period, the band members began to feel the urge to explore their individual paths, and with COVID adding to the pressure, they eventually entered a period of silence.
Five years later, the band returns to its original four-piece lineup, consisting of Denis De Meester (drums), Rint Mennes (bass), Robin Declerck (guitar), and Sam De Nef (guitar and vocals). The songwriting is a group effort, bringing the band as close to their true essence as possible.
Their search for a balance between reinvention and echoes of the past has resulted in a sound that blends shoegaze and grunge catharsis with an indie-rock style of songwriting. They decided to drop part of the band’s name, symbolizing a change, but kept some of it as an ode to the past.
Danny Blue’s songs are drenched in dreamy yet gritty textures and color schemes that feel both nostalgic and forward-thinking. At their core, however, their signature knack for catchy songwriting remains, now enriched with a deeper exploration of personal stories, relationships, and interactions with the confusing times we live in.
Danny Blue is, above all, a testament to the power of friendship—the driving force behind every note, every lyric, every reinvention.
