Rock band Geraldines from Mechelen played its first shows in 2013. The band – after several EPs – released its first full-length album in 2020: ‘NEVER WORRY ALWAYS WORRY’. Unfortunately, 2020 was also the year of COVID. Most shows were canceled and the songs on ‘NEVER WORRY ALWAYS WORRY’ barely got time on a stage. After a few sparse festival shows and with little feeling for some recently written songs, the band felt in 2021 that it had run out of steam. The plug was pulled and the band members focused on other things in life.
But no matter how hard they tried, leaving the band behind for good did not work. After a lot of palaver, the idea for ‘REAL DINGES’ was born. An anagram for the band name, but above all synonymous for a new impetus, with the biggest condition being that the band would do its own thing. Without regard to time constraints, studios, radio friendliness, common song structures or other inhibitions. Choosing for the friendship and the music.
Geraldines worked on dozens of songs, bought their own recording material and threw away previous (expensive) studio recordings. The fancy song structures went overboard and they cut the fat from the songs, until only the purest bits remained. The result had to be music that all band members support and that perfectly represents what Geraldines is after ten years. And they succeeded: ‘REAL DINGES’ has become an impressive concept album with nearly two dozen creations. Sometimes rough and shorter than is common in today’s streaming age, but 100% authentic. REAL DINGES.
‘REAL DINGES’ was released in November 2024. We think it’s a masterpiece, and Humo agrees. The magazine gave the album 4 stars, saying the album should catapult Geraldines to all the festival main stages.
